President's Report

MonicaOnly a few weeks left of 2009, and we’ll be ringing in the New Year. I want to take this time to thank you for your participation this past year in NACE. We all contributed to creating some exciting and dynamic monthly programs this year. Were you there?

We kicked off 2009 with a very tasty and educational deductive Wine Tasting and menu pairing at the Hyatt Regency Denver in January.

In March, we went ‘back to school’ with the students at the HRTM School at the University of Denver. The featured speaker, Mary Louise Starkey posed a most interesting question for the audience, "What is Service"? Mixing and mingling with the HRTM students was a true highlight of the evening for all NACE members.

Event Rents hosted the April NACE Denver Meeting in their new fantastic facility that is seemingly so vast it requires its own zip code! Everyone had the opportunity to showcase their creative eyes during a table-designing contest. Each team had the Event Rents inventory at their disposal and was charged with creating a table theme around their chosen centerpiece. The results ranged from "Oh Wow—Best in Show!" to "Eh—Don’t Give Up Your Day Job!"

Do you remember May? NACE and ISES combined their talents and members to produce a rustic farmers market concept of Farm to Fork. We look forward to our next joint event in 2010.

We welcomed Michael Roman to the annual fundraising event in June, at Catering by Design’s massive 32,000 square foot facility. Chef Cade Nagy, Event Solutions Magazine’s 2009 Caterer of the Year, created a four-course spin on classic comfort foods titled "Pop Culture Cuisine." Over $12,000 raised through fantastic auction items and a great turn out.

In July, we “lunched” at the Oxford Hotel, catered by McCormick’s Catering. Several of our local event planners participated in an interactive audience discussion. It was an open opportunity..."Everything you wanted to know, but were afraid to ask".

Destination: Charlotte, NC in August for the annual Experience! Several chapter members made the trip for some great food, education and networking.

I bet you never knew what the Catering Olympics would be all about, but all who participated had a CRAZY FUN time. The Curtis Hotel was the perfect setting for LAUGHTER AND GAMES, offered for the September event.

The JW Marriott rolled out the red carpet for NACE in October, hosting an interactive murder mystery with 20’s-era black & white décor; boas, beads and candy cigarettes adorned the tables.

Next year’s NACE National Educational Conference will take place in Austin, Texas from July 25th – 28th. Please do consider this opportunity when making plans for the coming year. The experience, education, and memories are well worth it!

A great way to become more involved in the chapter and make more contacts is to start off as a committee member, and work up to a Chair position. If you are interested or have questions please contact any current board member or myself.

Thank you for your continued support! I have enjoyed serving as your NACE President for the past two years and look forward to continuing with a focus in supporting our membership. Be sure to visit our website to stay up to date on all of our upcoming activities and meetings. December will be a great time for networking, sharing holiday cheer and to support Project Angel Heart! Let's end the year on a festive note, and I'll see you there.

What you have missed!

On November 11, we had a delicious breakfast hosted by the Marriott City Center.  The primary purpose of this past months event, was to say thank you to our founding NACE members and to our 2009 outgoing Board. We also formally inducted our incoming 2010 Board.  By volunteering, the friendships and business relationships that are "cultivated" through NACE has provided big rewards.  Please welcome your 2010 Board Officers & Directors:
